Ground Turkey that is Safe – Plainville Farms, Shelton’s Poultry

This latest salmonella scare is focusing on ground turkey.  Cargill, Inc. is the culprit this time.  They have recalled 36 million pounds of  fresh and frozen ground turkey.  We have never recommended this company as their practices do not meet our healthier ingredient standards.  Stick to Plainville Farms and Shelton's Poultry.  You can count on they way they feed, raise with fresh air and clean facilities and their air-chilled processes.  Not only are their turkey products safer and healthier, they are juicier and more delicious…. yes,  you can taste the difference.  Put both brands on your grocery list.

5 Raw Meat Safety Tips by radio guest, Kimberly Stewart

To prevent e coli, salmonella and more, make these tips a habit. 1. Place all raw meat packaging in plastic bags when shopping.  Use paper towels when handling to avoid spreading contamination.  Keep meat filled bags away from produce in cart.  2.  Use by date. Don't touch if expired.  3. Keep in plastic bag and place on bottom shelf of refrigerator so doesn't drip on other food.  Eat within 2 or 3 days. Or, freeze  immediately. Thaw in refrigerator, not on counter. 4. Use cutting board designated just for meat.  Always clean board thoroughly after use.  5. Ground meat must be cooked so not raw – medium to well. Searing surfaces of other cuts will kill the e coli. Enjoy quality meats.  Just eat less to manage your budget!
