RADIO GEM: High pH water remineralizes teeth!

IcelandSpringLogo

Kids with mottled teeth are looking at bone loss, an all too common condition which should be reversed.  Most adults need to strenghten their bones and teeth.  Doctors have noted that drinking Iceland Spring water can be instrumental in encouraging these results. Why? Because this natural spring water has a high 8.88 pH level and a vital combination of magnesium and calcium.   Since we are made of about 75% water, it makes sense that uncontaminated pristine water provides healthy hydration throughout our brain and body.  Take time to listen to our interview with David Lomnitz on iTunes so you will know how to shop for Water! Dangling Feet are related to Picky Eaters

danglingfeet, bw

If your kids’ feet are not touching the floor or a rung on their chair or stool while eating, odds are, they squirm and are picky eaters.  This has been noted by Dr. Bob Sears.  There is a relationship between being able to focus on your food and the sense of being anchored.  Some kids stand on one leg and lean into their chair or stool to avoid the dangle.  From the day they sit to eat, make sure your childrens’  feet are not hanging loose in your home or at restaurants.  Please help them out and make the needed adjustments.  (For more information on Picky Eaters, go to www.KidKritics.com and download this radio show)

RADIO GEM: Take Charge of FOOD SAFETY in Your Home

Food Safety

Jolie Root noted that you can at least be in charge of food safety in your home.  Wash your veggies, fruit and even meats before use.  Fill your sink with diluted Clorox (no chlorine) and in it wash your fresh fruit and veggies.  Rinse and put them in the refrigerator for grab and go use.  Exception:  wait to wash you leafy veggies until just before you are ready to eat them.  Meats and fish can use a rinse as well.  Salt water diluted in warm water is an alternative which we really like.  Keep you knives, cutting boards, washing utensils (sponges!) sterilized by placing them in the dishwasher.  Wash your dish towels frequently.  Double bag your meats when shopping to prevent dripping on other foods.  These actions  will keep your family from being exposed to and ingesting nasty and sometimes dangerous “bugs.”  Adopt these food safety habits.

FOOD NEWS: Fat does not make you fat!

olive-oil
Sugar makes your fat.  Fifty-five percent of your brain is fat.  Your neural system runs on fat.  At least 30% of our daily food intake should be fat.  It must be natural, not processed altered fats such as hydrogenated trans fats.  The sensationalism of fat being bad has turned us into a fat-deprived nation. The results are sickening.  So watch out for sugar and enjoy some fat.

Don't be afraid to try this week's recipe: Indian Raita

Raita-3-600x400
Roblyn went for it and made this healthy yogurt-based dip recipe.  She wanted her family to try it as a compliment for spicy Falafel Chips.  Now you are saying to yourself,  “Is she kidding?”  (no pun intended)  Read her comments and you will learn that like many Kid Kritics and other kids around the world, her kids like spicy flavors.  All she did was throw together some plain yogurt, chopped cucumbers,  herbs and spices.  After an hour of sitting in the frig, she served this combo to her kids (6 and 8 years).  They gobbled it up.

Enjoy Raita with compliment chicken, burgers, fish… or try it with the original Falafel chips which are loaded with flavors but are not “hot.”  Whatever you do, just try it!

PERFORMANCE FOOD: LETTUCE fuels muscles, nerves, bones, heart and more

Lettuce-romaine
Here is the second entry to our new series on Performance Foods.  Every food created for us to eat contains specific phyto (plant) nutrients that are advantageous for different parts of our body.  Each week you will learn about one.  This week is one most of you have in your kitchen year round. LETTUCE fuels muscles, nerves, bones, heart, joints, lungs, eyes, mouth/teeth, nose (olfactory), heart, brain, blood, and nails.  We are talking about dark green lettuce such as Romaine, not pale Iceberg lettuce. Though the later is filled with water and has some fiber, the white and weak green colors tells you It contains few life-giving phytonutrients.  To receive all the benefits of lettuce, serve true green versions, the darker the better!
