In addition to your heart, the nutrients in oats feed your brain, muscles, nails, nerves and skin!  Oatmeal for breakfast, as long as it is not filled with sugar, it a great way for both adults and kids to start a winter day.  Keep some rolled or steel cut oats in your cupboard so you can add some to other cereals, ground meat recipes, casseroles, breading, and baking recipes. Every bit counts.  Choose oat breads over white breads. Treat oats as a household staple.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread, organic,  by Rudi's Organic Bakery has been Kid Kritics Approved!  In fact, the kids had a lot to say about it, " really really good and good for breakfast… it was sooooooooooooooo sweet!… the best ever. I want it every day… uncommonly remarkable… it had a wonderful taste that was the best raisin brand ever!" For a knock out breakfast, lunch or snack, make a toasted peanut butter cinnamon raisin sandwich.  There is a Kid Kritics Approved gluten-free version as well so this bread is a grocery list option for all!

Recipe: Pretzel Breading by Karen

Comments: “I made it up myself with ingredients I had in the house!” (Karen, mother of 2)

Equipment: Food Processor

Prep Time:  5 min

Number of Servings:  6 or more depending on ages

Instructions
  
2 cups Organic Vita Spelt Pretzels, Original
  
1/4 cup nutritional yeast
  
1/4 cup dry polenta
  
4 teaspoons herbs de Provence
  
1 teaspoons garlic salt
Put all ingredients in food processor and grind until completely ground and mixed. Put in a shallow pan or in a bag for breading fish, chicken, or turkey.

Options: Use in place of bread crumbs in recipes!  Use Gluten-Free pretzels or bread crumbs. If you do not have nutritional yeast, replace it with grated organic cheese or cheese alternative.

4 God-made Food Colors: tan, yellow, green, white
3 Food Groups: whole grains, herbs, vegetables
